From a simple idea to a growing movement, trace the evolution of Breathe Nigeria through the years.
Mrs. Peace conceptualized Breathe Nigeria after witnessing the disconnect between Nigerian youth and their cultural roots.
Our first digital platform went live with 50 stories from 10 different Nigerian ethnic groups, reaching 5,000 readers in the first month.
Expanded to include educational programs in 25 schools across Nigeria, directly engaging with over 10,000 children.
Now a recognized cultural preservation movement with international partnerships and a growing team of passionate contributors.

“Japa’’ is a word that has become popular in Nigeria in recent times. It is a Yoruba word meaning “to run away”. This is what many Nigerians are doing these days in search of greener pastures and better job opportunities in other countries. With the growing inflation, poverty and insecurity in Nigeria, who would blame them? If one finds an opportunity to get away to a more stable and secure environment, why not!? Unfortunately, while some have found what they are looking for, others discover they have only jumped from the frying pan straight into the fire! My position, until recently has been; ‘If we all go, who then will clean up and rebuild Nigeria?’ With the ‘japa’ surge on the rise, Nigeria has lost very good hands to other countries.
In recent times for example the sectors of medicine and education have experienced a mass relocation of their professionals to foreign countries as many move abroad in response to lucrative job offers by international organizations. The unhesitant response by many Nigerians to these offers, have contributed to a downward plunge in these sectors. Indirectly impacting the Nation’s economy. Many Nigerians who leave, take spouses from and settle permanently in their new countries having no interest in keeping connections with their home land. Some others, however, and in a spirit of Patriotism, make really good effort not just to keep connections and memories alive, but pass on their own knowledge to their children. It is to further support this patriotic effort that ‘Breathe Nigeria’ was initiated.
Picture Nigeria as a giant, losing breath, struggling to stay alive. ‘Breathe Nigeria’ with a video series titled ‘hello Nigeria’ is an effort to equip the Nigerian child and even adults in diaspora, with insights, knowledge and information about Nigeria their own father land. This is with the hope that no matter what happens, Nigeria will remain alive in the hearts of our children in diaspora and that they might be inspired to rebuild their father land someday. I sincerely encourage Parents, teachers and counselors of Nigerian children in diaspora. Do navigate your children here. Let us join our hearts and efforts in the hope of a new, better and greater Nigeria!
